Daniel P. Addiss Dies At Age 55 – Obituary

Daniel P. Addiss, Head Computer Programmer and Developer for PoolAndSpa.com passed unexpectedly in his sleep on May 16, 2016 . He was 55 years old.

Danny was born June 8, 1960 on Long Island, NY. He went to Hauppauge High School and then studied computer science at Stony Brook University. His first job was at Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage, NY as a computer programmer. He opened his own consulting business in the mid-1980’s.

He joined the PoolAndSpa.com team in the early 1990’s and developed many of the systems and programs still in use today. He was a major component of the team that worked so hard to launch PoolAndSpa.com in the mid-1990’s at the very beginning of the popularity of the Internet. He developed one of the first e-commerce programs in the world and continued to do consulting work for PoolAndSpa.com until his death.

Danny enjoyed golf, skiing, playing the bass guitar, poker, gambling, boating and Las Vegas. He was also the longtime best friend of Daniel Harrison, PoolAndSpa.com’s founder.

Upon learning of his death Harrison posted on Facebook “It is with deep sadness that I must share the news that my oldest and dear friend Danny Addiss, passed away suddenly, in his sleep on Monday at age 55. Those of you who knew him know how much richer your lives were because of him. He was always the first person to lend a helping hand or offer kind words of encouragement when needed. His sudden passing has been a shock to us all. As James Dean once said “Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today.” That’s how Danny lived his life. Everyone should try that too, at least for the next few days. Rest In Peace Danny, my friend.”

Two days later, Harrison posted this photo (shown above) from the 1990’s when Danny was playing bass in the band, Master Image. He wrote “Here is a photo of Danny when he played the bass in our band. He loved this particular band photo (shown with Dan Harrison and Tim Casey) and loved playing the bass.”

Harrison continued “I really cant believe that we lost him so soon. Danny and I grew up together. I was either with him or spoke to him every day for almost 40 years. He was such a great guy to his family, friends and business associates. Everyone knew they could always count on Danny. He would do anything for anyone. He helped me build two residential houses and helped build two stores – as well as our office/warehouse in Yaphank, NY. He went out of his way to help all of his computer consulting clients. He was great at everything he did. I know he has been missed by hundreds of people whose lives he was apart of. RIP Danny Addiss. I would not be the person I am today, had it not been for him being a part of my life. And I am certain that many others feel the same.”

Danny is survived by his three brothers and his sister (pictured above). From left to right, Dave, Bob, Bill, Laura and Danny. Also by his beloved dog Max (pictured below).
