Swimming Pool Supplies – Sales Way Up Due To Global Warming?
Swimming Pool supplies sales have recently seen a huge spike over the past few weeks. Could this be caused by global warming, or simply because it is just plain HOT right now throughout most of the country?
All of a sudden, there has been a huge demand for swimming pool supplies AND new swimming pool sales across the country. “Whether or not the recent weather patterns are actually due to Global Warming, the fact is that the temperatures across the country have been very unseasonably hot over the last few weeks” reports a New York pool service owner.
One New Jersey dealer states that “I believe that the recent burst in swimming pool supply sales and new pool starts also has a lot to do with a large pent up demand for our products.” He continues that “This great warm season has really helped to skyrocket both our in-store sales for pool supplies – and a much needed boost to our new pool installation business. I am very happy!”
An online Internet Retailer commented that “I don’t know if it is Global Warming, but I do know it is hot. We are having a hard time keeping things (pool supplies) in stock. That has not been the case for at least the past 3 years. We are already running out of pool supply staples such as chlorine tablets, shock, pool pumps and filters., etc. This rarely happens to us so early in the season. We have had to already place re-orders on many sku’s that we normally only order once per year.”
The one industry segment that still seems to be lagging is with new Above Ground Pool sales. A major Above Ground Pool Manufacturer from the South East reports that “We were almost put out of business after the financial collapse of 2008. The ensuing Recession and the bad housing (Real Estate) market really put a large nail into the coffin of the Above Ground Pool Industry about a decade ago. I hear that the folks in the in-ground pool business and the hot tub business have been doing quite well, starting early last year, however we have yet to see those types of double digit increases within the Above Ground sector this year yet. Hopefully it will happen soon.”
“I don’t believe in Global Warming” says one resolute Texas pool builder. “But I do know that my (area) of Texas has had a lot of rain for about 3 years, and it’s hot as a bitch out. Our problem is that we have a lot of people who want to get pools, but we are very backed up. It makes it more difficult for us to build pools, permit-wise, than it used to. But overall I can’t complain.”
A Las Vegas pool builder recently noted that “I personally believe that across the planet, the global temperatures are obviously going up over the past few years. As a matter of fact, here in Nevada, Carson City had the largest increase in average overall temperature in 2018 – compared to most other cities in the USA – since they started recording temperatures. I also believe that man-made greenhouse gasses are surely contributing (however large or small) to the warmer temperatures we have been seeing lately.”
He continues, “But I do have to say that I am old enough to remember the 1970’s, when Global Cooling was the “hot topic” for many years. It was much like the stuff we hear today – like All scientists concur that a new ice age is coming soon, caused by man, and we should all stock up on heavy clothing and snow shovels because New York will be covered by a glacier by the year 2000! But that didn’t happen.”
But this is not the place to get scientific nor political. This is the place to kind of say “Yeeeeaaahhyyyy” – it’s usually hot in the Summer, for whatever reason, and I am glad I have a pool!”
So if you have a pool, jump right in, invite your friends and family over, and enjoy it. If you don’t have a pool yet, shop around. Getting a pool – in-ground or above ground – may not be as expensive as you think. You know you’ll love it!
